About

I'm a software engineer turned entrepreneur, currently building Ritza, a technical writing agency.

Previously I was CTO at an EdTech startup.

I respond to most emails and tweets, so go ahead and shout if you have questions.

If you want advice in getting started writing and publishing technical tutorials, start with this GitHub page.

Now

My main focus is Ritza, a technical writing agency that I bootstrapped from nothing in 2020. We're now a team of about ten people, serving some of the best-known technical companies globally, creating some of the best technical content on the internet to help our customers grow.

I'm the sole owner and manager, doing all sales, hiring, project management, customer success management, and operations. My team consists of writers, QA engineers, and editors who do the actual hard work of creating guides, documentation, benchmarks, and proof of concept applications for our customers. We have entities in the Netherlands and South Africa and customers all around the globe. I also maintain our public and open source handbook and styleguide.

I also have an unhealthy amount of side projects, including:

  • ZATech - I help run the largest technical community in South Africa. We're a non-profit that exists primarily as a Slack group of software developers and other technical professionals.
  • Sboj - a job board and reverse job board that's integrated into ZATech
  • Aztir - a guest house in the Eastern Cape, South Africa that's geared towards digital nomads
  • Unofficial Eskom - a website and set of scripts and metabase dashboards that pull data regularly from the South African national electricity provider which I use to analyse the ongoing (for 20 years) power crisis in South Africa
  • EMEA Entrepreneurs - a place where I dump advice and shorter articles related to running a business in South Africa

My Writing

My writing is scattered across different projects and sites. Sometimes I wish I had a single blog or similar site which had it all, but I treat these projects as my garden.

A recent article I wrote is Claude Code is all you need about my experience trying out CLI coding agents.

You can read some of my other older articles here on this site at writing, over at EMEA Entrepreneurs, the Ritza style guide and handbook.
